Empire Testimonial

Hi BTP,

I received the first package for the Empire Army last Thursday, it took me two days to unpack it, and Shawn is right ... it kinda ruins Christmas!  Every rolled pack was like opening a new present and I love it all; I have zero complaints about this Army and it is downright impressive how you can amass so much quality in to such a big project. It was also packed very well, I think I only had to glue back two heads; very marginal for shipping 400+ models.  It's also impossible for me to choose a favorite mini.  Here are a few (of many) cool things I didn't notice in the approval video or the Batrep.

1. The dismounted general with the great sword sticking in the ground is GREAT.  I love that sculpt and whomever came up with it is genius - Awesome.
2. The banners are 10 times cooler when seen in person (the whole army is like this, but especially the banners)  I love the skull decals and the BSBs are ...probably the best paint work in the Army, which is Saying Something!
3. The skin blends on the heroes' faces are downright impressive, I will never achieve that talent.
4. I love the oxidation effect on the cannons and mortars - very creative.
5. Limitless cool stuff

Also, I want to keep the convo going on the terrain coming with the project, and the custom foam for the larger models. Also, I attached my favorite still shot from Shawn's most recent morning show ... It truly captures why I love Shawn Gately !!!
Yours Truly,
- T.M.

Necron Tactics- Named Characters

Got this in from a fan...

Hey Bluetable,

Just looking at some of your Necron Battle reports. Next time you field them you might want to use the Imotekh the Storm Lord in combination with Nemesor Zhandrekh.

  • So, for every turn of the game there is a strong chance of it being night fighting (from the storm lord). With the tactics special rules for Zhandrekh a unit shooting can have night vision, so you're firing clear as day while your opponent is blind, not to mention you'll have the ability of taking away furious charge etc in the same turn.
  • Zhandrekh and Imotekh are consider lords in the codex you can take two royal courts (they don't take up HQ slots). So, have four Necron Lords upgraded with weave, orb, warscythe & any extra goodies you want and place them within your troops choice (should be immortals) - just to keep them alive for the game (if they get charged you can give one of them counter attack from Zhandrekh).
  • Upgrade some Cryptek from the destruction and despair (I think they're called that).
  • Once done attach a Cryptek that now has the deepstrike ability to a unit of Lychguard and with a second unit of Lychguard attach Vargard Obyron (he will not take up a HQ slot if you're taking Zhandrekh, the Lychguard units should just have warscythes.
  • Due to night fighting you could bring a Stalker. However, it might be more advantageous to bring a long a C'tan for the added affect of their 'spells'. If You should attach a Cryptek to Imotekh the Storm Lord, bringing along a unit of Flayed ones would be interesting because of Imotekh's special rule pertaining to them.
  • To rub insult to injury bring two units of Canoptek Wraiths with coils, so those with high initiatives are brought down to one. Maybe add tank hunter to them if not one of the Lychguard units during your turn with Zhandrekh.
  • For heavy support I would try using the Canoptek Spider, even more so if there should be 'spell casters' and armour on the opponents side. If not then a Doomsday Ark will do just fine (maybe two). Flyers to me aren't that worth while.

Well that's what I came up with, try it out, would love to see how it preforms.

I have a little something for the Black Templars, from the codex so you end up with pretty much nothing more than a couple of scouts with teleport homers and snipers&shot guns. While the rest of army comprises of Terminators, drop pods, tech marines and one or two bits of armour.

Anyway keep up the good work,

Karl in London (England).

Fungus Nids news

Gaming update from Shawn.

I painted up 66x Termagants over the weekend and more coming.

Yesterday I fixed up a few Carnifexes and with the arrival of two Tervigons I got the sets of fleshborer hives (to represent TL TL devourers).

I'm coming up fast on 5000 points.  What else should I add?

1x Carnifex
64x Termagants
2x Tervigons (for a total of five!)

I want to try a Tervigon/Gribblie army and just pack the board with as many bodies as possible.

Why I Love Home

Got this letter from a client/friend.  It sounds about right.  I love home and for now at least I am content.  Wife, Children, Home and Hearth.  A hobbit hole means comfort.

Hey Shawn,

I think your thing with traveling might just be the trip itself...sometimes, or very often, the actual journey can be a total pain.  Getting to the airport, the rushing, the often crowded conditions, the chaos...it can be overwhelming, and when things are like that, I'm entirely not into it.  That said, every now and then it works out so that the actual trip itself is awesome...relaxed, fun, and interesting...all good.  I think I have a good dose of natural wanderlust in me, though, because more often than not I'm totally into just going...somewhere, anywhere.  Feeling a rumbling engine underneath me, or taking off into the sky into some unknown...I dig it.  In fact, a lot of time actually arriving at our destination is a bit of a bummer for me...I just really loved the ride.

From watching you and listening to you for years now though, Shawn, I really think you might be somewhat personally anti-travel for a very simple reason (which I could be waaay off on, but who knows...), and that is this; you've already made it to your destination.  You've been all over the place for a large portion of your life, and at last you've found a place you really, really love.  Home.  It's beautiful, you have everything you need there.  Why go anywhere else?  Your trip is over, and you've made it.  It's actually a really beautiful thought, and a state of being that I think many would be envious of...myself included:)

Hope all is well, Shawn, can't wait to see my army, and look forward to hearing from you!

Bob

Dark Angels Update

Got my Dark Angels book first thing Saturday.  The local shop didn't stock the new models very deep and I didn't want to be douchey and buy them all up so I didn't pick up any new releases.

Saturday afternoon I finished the mega battle report which was a huge undertaking at every step.  You can see that on Youtube of course.

In the afternoon I ran to Costco to pick up some Sunday foodstuffs including a treat: some frosted cinnamon buns.

First impressions:
The new Land Speeder Vengeance is a turd.  Nothing good about it and $35 more than a regular land speeder so no thanks to that.  Maybe just maybe the Darkshroud version (with the icon thing) at 80 points might have some potential.  I like synergy.

My impression of the Deathing: Holy McCheesus!  They are so cool.  They are loaded with new models, new options, and just shred-tastic all around.  Ravenwing are amazingly cool, too.

A knot of Deathwing, deep striking around a Ravenwing Teleport Homer, (unerringly on turn one or two), with the Company Banner (+1 Attack to all within 6").  I see Deathwing as a very tough army, a nightmare to deal with.

My Dark Angels list is going to be mixed.  I'm thinking something like this.

2x Heroes (Probably get a Belial in there to make the Deathwing into Troops)
2x full Tactical Squads (20x models, combat squaded up)
2x Rhinos
5x Veterans
1x Drop Pod
5x Scouts (Sniper Rifles)
5x Deathwing Knights
5x Deathwing Terminators
6x Ravenwing Bikes
1x Nephilim Jetfighter
1x Land Raider Crusader

I have this wild hair, this wild idea.  A "Fiero".  To build the entire Chapter of Dark Angels.  One thousand models plus a few hundred vehicles.  It can be done.  And bring it to Valhalla in say... August.

Hey Shawn,

I just got my dark elves 02 ksch and dark elves 03 ksch in the mail this morning and everything looks absolutely incredible.I can't even begin to tell you how satisfied I am with the quality of the models and how fabulous they turned out. I am satisfied 110%. Thank you so much for your customer service, constant dedication to your profession, and love for the business. It all shines through in the final product.

Now that I have those two projects done, I'm thinking about getting another one started soon.

Empire Mega Battle 04

Just finished Turn 03 of our 10,000 point Orcs/Ogres vs Empire Warhammer Fantasy mega-battle.

The score is about Ogres 5300 vs Empire 3400.  So, we've got to catch up in the second half.  It can be done.

Working with BTP

Thanks Shawn,

Everyone there is so amazing and where the folks that make the magic happen in concept, assembly, painting and by participating in the spirit of the studio - whether involved in a project or not, I salute them. For the folks there, Shannon, John, Josh, Julie, Mason and the crew... and not to forget the wizard of wonder, the long-beard of table top, the high mage of miniatures, Shawn.

Cheers,

A.M.
