Advance Scout Report

The cool little space dwarf will be available through white dwarf subscription (I'm guessing new subscribers only)

Advanced Scout Paul reports the following:

Tyranids: 3 new plastic and 3 new metal kits. The new codex is supposed to give you only horde options instead of biomorph options. I'm not sure what that means, but I'm thinking more gaunts, less options, cheaper point costs.

Fiscal Responsibility

I made another donation to the campaign of Rand Paul this morning.

Rachel Maddow makes me bite my lower lip... in a good way. Here's the civil and enlightening interview she had with Rand Paul.

What's going on here is that the Republican party betrayed its own values. What's seen as "internecine warfare" is really just a purification process.

One of my favorite quotes from "Leave Us Alone" by Grover Norquist (which I have now read twice):

"The goal of Americans who love liberty is not to wield that power [to tax and regulate] but to reduce it. To control it. To bind it down with the chains fo the Constitution and popular will. To destroy much of that power lest it fall back into the same old hands. The goal is not to try and use the ring of power for good, but to hurl it into the fires of the pits of Mordor."

As a small business owner I can say without reservation that the federal government is the mortal enemy of the small local businessman. The city fixes the potholes in front of my shop. The Feds buy F-15s and fly them over the desert on the other side of the world. Or bail out banks (shudder).

Rumor has it this is coming early 2010, possibly January for the first wave.

This reminds me, I need someone (if such a thing exists) to feed me rumors and good stuff from over the net. Sort of a Reporter.

Relaxazoid

Another glorious Sabbath Day has passed. This one was particularly good. My wife made pancakes with macadamia nut chunks in them. Lots of butter. Lots of syrup. Yummers.

We tidied up the downstairs. J had dumped some soup in the shag carpet and that started smelling like vomit. One way or another I am getting rid of that carpet this week. It is foul to the core.

Then off to church with the older kids, which was a relaxing delight. I actually got to listen to the speakers. We got there moderately on time for a change as well. I don't know how to describe it. I was just relaxed the whole time. The whole day was just a joy.

I went home teaching in the evening, both families doing well. I have a new HT companion named Richie. He is working as an assistant manager, but his real passion is speakers. Building custom speakers. It's all greek to me. But it seems that he should be making a living doing that, the thing he loves and is useful to society. Richie is like Clark Kent: mild mannered, unassuming, but with a half-smile and a heroic nature. He has black hair, strong chin, and horn-rim-type-rectangular-lisa-lobe-type glasses. And some stubble you could sand your deck with.

In Sunday School the lesson was A Mission of Saving. It occurred to me that Brigham Young didn't whistle in his white steed, jump on, and gallop off to the rescue. He organized things. Each person had a smaller assignment in the big picture. It was a group effort. I just got a little insight into leadership, because I tend to just want to do everything myself. I call it "giant pulsing brain syndrome".

I watched two episodes of Warehouse 13 with my wife. I ate some cookie and cream ice cream.

I had a dream the other night. I was walking down Siskiyou boulevard into Ashland, where the trees are large and shade the road. This is a common element. I notice that the dandelions have grown very large, and in this one yard they are a small forest of them, about eight feet tall with wrinkled and hard green trunks, gently curving. Their heads were a full sphere of seed pods larger than a basketball. As I peered into the yard I could see the soft-glow outlines of party-goers, in ballroom regalia and masks, and the clinking of glasses, and the murmur of voices.

It sounds like a lot of fun, but I must move on. I have somewhere to be.

Rough Draft

Some short notes about today. I have a ton of video to edit: Sundae Monday, Notreps, Morning Show, army features etc.

Here are the highlights:

  • Vampire Counts army still for sale. Would drop it by $50 for payment by tomorrow OR by check.
  • Played a 2500 pt game with the Tzeentch Daemons army. That thing is a load of fun.
  • Booking projects now for October. Ready whenever you are.
  • Still two copies of Space Hulk available. Don't be crying when they all run out.

Testimonial- Nurgle Warriors of Chaos (Pandora Army)

Hey Shawn,
.
I just wanted to let you know that my Nurgle WoC army arrived in the post today! It's beautiful! Thank you so much, it looks as good in person as it did on video, if not better! I'm very, very pleased! I haven't gotten a chance to go over everything yet and get a good close look, but it's all out of the wrapping and good to go. Now, of course as expected, there are a few instances of breakage, but nothing too major and certainly nothing a little superglue won't cure! Awesome, Shawn, truly awesome. It's an amazing looking force and I couldn't be happier with it. Thanks to you, and the whole BTP crew, my friend! I look forward to expanding upon this army with you, and future business together!
.
Deeply grateful,
BC

Shawn,
A nice summary of an interesting economist's work. Maybe not exactly where you stand on it, but he certainly seems prescient. The title is a bit misleading. The economist, Minsky, looks at a big problem with capitalism, but his interest is in fixing it rather than abandoning the system as a whole.

War Machine MK2 Rules Out

Just picked this up from Privateer Press:
.
To our players:
.
We have decided to do something radical. We’ve been paying a lot of attention to our forums and talking with our players at the conventions this summer and it’s clear that the anticipation for MkII is driving everyone a little batty. Many are excited, some of you are a little afraid, but the suspense is killing everyone and the speculation is killing us! So after a great deal of deliberation we have decided that the best thing we can do for the mental well-being of our community is to completely change our plans and do what we said we wouldn’t: we’re going to put all of the MkII rules and model information online as PDF downloads, because four more months is just too damn long for everyone to be holding their breath.
.
There are some disclaimers and explanations that need to accompany this.
.
First, the rules and stat info are final. While the books and cards are still in layout and will be for the next few weeks before they go to press, this is the final form this information will take. So you can be confident that nothing you see here will change between now and when the rules come out in book form unless we find an editing mistake at the last moment that needs to be corrected. But our development on this is locked. You have the final data.
.
Second, as the book and cards are still in layout, and because we want to give this information to you now, you’re getting the no-frills version. The rules PDF is the book layout but does not include any backgrounds, art or diagrams. And in several places, you’ll note that icons are displayed by name rather than their graphic (these are waiting to be plugged in) and there are many instances of ‘see page XXX’, which is a placeholder for a page number that gets filled in as the very last thing we do in the layout process once we know that nothing is shifting around in the layout anymore. As well, the model info is being taken directly from our development files, so they’re not nice, neat little cards. Each model’s stat info is on a separate page as just the data with no graphical layout or whatnot.
.
So while this is an unpolished, un-beautiful version of what will be found in the final product, and while you’ll have to read around the ‘XXX’ and icon names, it IS the final information, and we know that’s what everyone is dying for right now anyway. Think of it as seeing a movie before all the special effects, color correction, sound track and sound editing take place. It’s the movie, just not how it’s meant to be presented.
.
A few final notes; once again, we want to thank our community, all of you players, for your involvement and feedback in shaping the MkII rules. While we know that this has been an inconvenient transition, we do believe that all of the changes made in MkII will improve the play experience for the community as a whole, and we also believe that this process has yielded the best possible final product. We hope that you will see the impact and the influence that your feedback has had on what MkII has become.
.
While you will no doubt be eager to take everything for a spin, please be aware that our ‘official’ events will continue to be supported with MkI rules for the remainder of the year. Naturally, what you do in the privacy of your own game store is up to you and your opponent and the event organizer, but as far as we’re concerned, MkII will not be supported in organized play by Privateer until January when the book comes out.
.
And a final word to our Hordes players who still have a much longer wait ahead of them; please know that we are working very hard to put out the Hordes MkII field test as soon as possible. Because of what we have learned through the MkII field test, we believe our first public draft of the Hordes MkII rules will much more closely resemble what the final rules will look like. Because of that, it is our intention to make the Hordes MkII Field Test rules official upon posting so that Hordes players can continue to participate in our organized play events alongside WARMACHINE players until the Hordes MkII book comes out next summer. The caveat of course is that things WILL change, but probably much less dramatically than some of the WARMACHINE changes that we observed.
.
Thank you all for your patience, your feedback, and your continued support.
And play like you’ve got MkII…

Climbing

This week my grandma Laurie has been in for a visit. She's my last surviving grandparent. My wife has none. Having her around brings back all those great memories of being a young boy. I lived with her and Grandpa Len during fifth grade down in southern California, right next to the beach.
.
To come into the room and see her sitting elegantly erect, reading spectacles perched precisely, and soaking up her well-worn, well-read, well-marked brown leather-bound bible is a comfort.
.
My wife and I were up really late watching Warehouse 13, our new mutually adored show. We ate English muffins with peanut butter and honey (from the hives of SMA), sliced local peaches, home-made salsa (made from tomatoes from our yard) and chips.
.
Reminds me of the show The Lost Door which I highly recommend.
.
I woke up really early, went for a walk. There was a thunderstorm the night before, and the sky was still cloudy and the streets still wet. It was perfect.
.
After hanging out all morning with the family we headed to church. I had a nagging headache. Not enough water? Not enough sleep? Sunday School was quite inspiring. I've been in a plateau. It's time to step it up a notch. Lesson was Faith in Every Footstep.
.
All in all a very enjoyable Sabbath. Super-relaxing. I just hope I can get a good night's sleep. I am absolutely chomping on the bit to get to work on Monday. It's time to get in a game!

Tomato Sauce

When I was about thirty, I had just graduated from college, and a month thereafter my first child was born. A few weeks earlier we had been kicked out of our rental home (it had sold suddenly) and we were living in a trailer on a dirt lot out in the sticks. It was a dire situation.
.
I opened the fridge and there was a can of tomato sauce. One can of tomato sauce. That's it. In our checking account we had $55, the precise amount we needed to pay our tithing. So, with a long exhalation we decided to "cast our bread on the waters". I bummed car rental money from my mom and headed to San Francisco on a crazy lead-- a job as an elementary school teacher.
.
I got the job and we were soon on our feet.
.
Rewind two weeks. There was a job I really wanted, and that paid very well. It was as an employment specialist at a local college. I really applied myself to getting that job. I was horribly disappointed when it didn't work out. But it turned out to be a much better thing for my life. I wouldn't have grown nearly as much by staying in my home valley.
.
When I saw the ad for that job I thought, "Wow, if I could ever make that much money I would be set!". My third year of teaching I was making that much money. Of course, the astronomical rents in the Bay Area made it not such a huge amount.

Freak Job

Thanks to a group effort the studio Tzeentch Daemons army is nearing completion. It features 3500 points of models.

New pics are up.

Originally, I had asked Brigh to create some centerpiece models. These are fillers to bulk out units, each one taking up four spaces. They also add some interesting feature to massed bulks of ranked infantry. Brigh came up with five (yes five) converted sorcerors on disc. However, these seemed to be better used as Heralds of Tzeentch on disc. So, we made up four more fillers, giant mutated mega-horrors. These turned out fabulously. Above is a pic of my fave. These can act as Beasts of Tzeentch (use beasts of nurgle entry) in Fantasy OR as Daemon Princes in 40K.

It's all coming up roses for this army.

The more I read up on both army lists, the more I'm in love with them.

The centerpiece is a vulture daemon by http://www.ultraforgeminiatures.com/ I just love that model. In fact, the whole thing was inspired by that one piece.

As for what the army is made out of: eight boxes of Chaos Spawn, a load of tyranid parts, and a lot of green stuff. Some of the horrors are simple and almost an embarassment, but most are a little slice of genius. More importantly, they are each and every one a totally unique creation.

Army list:
1x Greater Daemon of Tzeentch
5x Herald of Tzeentch of Disc
6x Flamers of Tzeentch
6x Screamers of Tzeentch
72x Pink Horrors
4x Mega-Horrors (daemon prince or beasts of tzeentch or horror unit filler) Soon to be two added.

Nurglies on the Block

I have a few things on the block today.

  • Two Nurglified Hellcannons. These are mounted on beveled decorative bases. $190 each.
  • Three units of Nurgle Marauder Horsemen. These are on metal "mutie" steeds, each model converted and distinct. Each unit has five models and comes on a magnetized tray. They are armed with flails and shields. $110 per unit of five.
  • One Chaos Lord on Manticore. Again, a lot of conversions there. $55.
Or $650 takes the lot.

Also picked up two Chaos Dwarf Earthshaker cannons and crew (complete, some light painting). $20 each or $30 for the pair.

First come, first served. Email me at bluetablepainting@gmail.com if interested. I anticipate they will be gone soon.

Six Piece

My nickname for Willow is "Nugget" which is short for "all white-meat chicken nugget".

She's over her lingering cold and back to her mild-mannered self. Just happy to be along for the ride. Zen-baby.

She's crawling all around now, like a sea cucumber with anemone hands, drawing all into a central drooling orifice. She loves noodles, and will sit and eat contentedly as long as new things are put in front of her. She won't tolerate being spoon fed, she absolutely freaks out. She wants to do it herself.

This is the magic stage where she is being introduced to human food. I can't get enough of her.

Tonight I had her cradled in one arm while I slouched on the couch watching TV. That was pure enchantment.

Space Hulk Sold Out!

Warp Breach Imminent...

Custom Flamer of Tzeentch. Part of the blooming studio Tzeentch Daemons army. http://www.bluetablepainting.com/view_gallery.php?galleryID=3101 This is our 3,101st project. The army is at least 2500 pts now and will be completed by this Friday. Almost sure it's near 3000 pts.

Chaperones

On the way back home tonight, I got into an mild-natured dispute with my wife. She said that Charlie Brown's sister was named Sally. Everyone knows that Charlie Brown's sister is Lucy! There's no Sally. Who ever heard of a Sally? Such a character never existed! I completely derided the notion, berating her for her lack of Peanuts knowledge. Imagine my embarrassment.

Rewind.

Bright and early Saturday morning I was up and at'em. I left for work just as the kids were getting up and indulging in the ritual of Saturday-morning cartoons. My good friend Sky Marshall Anonymo tipped me off to an auction at a local business. He had to come with me because it was for employees of certain companies only. It's a rather large manufacturing place on the outskirts of town.

When I arrived I saw a mass of office furniture and other miscellaneous related equipment all numbered and arranged about in the shipping bay. There were about thirty people in a gaggled crescent about the edge. There wasn't an auctioneer per se, just an employee with a laptop. He started the bidding on each item at a dollar, and a LOT of them had no bids, and I just started picking them up at a dollar each. Mostly office chairs. At the end I had picked up twenty-nine lots.

The catch of the day was a set of four leather office chairs with brass studs, tilt-backs and wheels, and also a matching non-wheeled pair. I picked them up for less than a tenth of the normal price. That's the free market for you.

If you want to start your business, don't go the bank! The world is full of deals for the bargain hunter. I believe it's possible to start a business on a shoe-string; build it up a step at a time and carry no debt.

Then I had to figure out a way to get it all hauled off. Sky Marshal Anonymo came through again. His wife came out with their truck, and I placed a call to Dane saying "get on your bathrobe and slippers and get down here!".

After that the Sky Marshal and I headed out for fish tacos. I had to jet early since I had cleaning duty down at the church. I took K and J, my eldest kids, with me and cleaned the bathrooms. That was really a great bonding time.

Now things really got started. Back at Tamie's old high school they were having Homecoming, and she and her sister had got some alumni-type invitation. We did the whole shelangadang as if we were going to prom. We had a great time. The student body president greeted us at the door, and I just had to take a pass on his super-prickly hair (see pic below).

Tamie is really quite the murderess on the dance floor. I have no chance of keeping up with her.

I'm trying a new thing where I actually listen to other people. I found out that my brother-in-law has a band called Citizen Fate. www.myspace.com/citizenfate

After eating some ice cream we headed off to my sister-in-law's house where we found that Tamie's dad has arrived for a visit this week. We sat around chewing the fat for a while, watching the cats chase a laser pointer all around the living room.

The Dread Horde- Special!

All right folks, here's the deal.... The problem with horde armies is purchasing, assembling and painting the horde. And having a real horde army really painted professionally is a hefty wad of cash.
.
I'm going to help you solve that and get the horde army you always wanted. Or make your existing army so huge that your opponent will crap his shorts when you array it on the table. Nothing like three hundred Orc warriors screaming at a full charge!
.
Minimum order for a Dread Horde is 100 total models. They are painted L2 (upgrade to L3 for $2.50 per model) and we have artistic license for painting/basing (we are not going off the beaten path-- you can expect a pretty standard color scheme).
.
I plan on getting multiple people signed up on this in the next 3-6 weeks. The goal is to get ONE THOUSAND miniatures for each horde type (effectively making it a a co-op purchase among multiple clients-- of course each client doesn't deal with or know about the others, we handle it all).
.
You get 35% off on your cost of models, too!
.
The minimum order of 100 models is per army type. So, you couldn't say paint me up 50 orks and 50 skeletons. But you can split within the army, saying paint me up 50 zombies and 50 skeletons.
.
I will do a comparable deal for almost any army if you have an order of at least 500 similar models. Any game system.
.
On top of that we are only requiring half down (not full cost of models up front plus half service).
.
You can send your own models in if you want. However, they need to be of similar type: no lumping in leaders/heroes/oddball stuff.
.
You can send in your models assembled already if you want. However, they need to be cleaned and textured (gravel on bases) and generally ready for us to prime them. However however, you can have us do that, we just charge about $0.50 per model.
.
You can have other models from the same army done concurrently, they are just normal price (eg tanks/heroes/etc.)
.
Spreadsheets available here. Right click on link to download.
.
Vampire Counts
Skeletons, Crypt Ghouls, or Dire Wolves:
minimum order in boxes of 10.
Cost per model: Figure $1.43 ; Assembly $2; Painting L2 $2 = $54.30 per box of 10 models
.
Zombies:
minimum order in boxes of 20.
Cost per model: Figure $1.14; Assembly $2; Painting L2 $2 = $102.80 per box of 20 models.
.
Grave Guard:
minimum order in boxes of 10.
Cost per model: Figure $1.82; Assembly $2; Painting L2 $2
.
Orks
Ork Slugga Boyz (slugga/choppa) or Shoota boyz
minimum order in boxes of 10.
Cost per model: Figure $1.43; Assembly $2; Painting L2 $2
.
Storm Boyz
minimum order in groups of 10.
Cost per model: Figure $3.25; Assembly $3; Painting L2 $2
.
Cadians
Cadian with Lasgun
minimum order in boxes of 10.
Cost per model: Figure $1.43 ; Assembly $2; Painting L2 $2 = $54.30 per box of 10 models
.
Cadian with special weapon or equipment (meltagun, plasma rifle, vox caster, grenade launcher, or flamer)
no minimum order.
Cost per model: Figure $1.43 (3.25 for meltagun or plasma rifle); Assembly $3; Painting L2 $3
.
Tyranids forthcoming!
Limitation: this cannot be combined with any other special, discount or credit. This is for cash on the barrelhead only.
.
The spreadsheets show Shipping is $20 in US or $40 overseas. I think I was possibly out of my mind when I wrote that. It's $9 in the US and $25 overseas, just like alwaaays.

A Trillion Suns

I feel inclined to write a word of encouragement.

The worth of a soul is great.

29 Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father.
30 But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.
31 Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.
--Matthew 10

He is kind. He is familiar with each of us and a time is coming that each of us will be embraced by Him again. I know God personally. I always thought it would be a traumatic experience, but it was as comfortable as anything. I know for a fact, for myself, that He would rather extinguish a trillion suns than lose you. And indeed you cannot be lost.

When a child is playfully lifted above his or her father's head, there is a moment of zero gravity. For some children a moment of terror, and for others (and most after a few tosses) a moment of joy. But those strong hands are to either side and will not falter. That moment is as this entire mortal life.

Be at peace about things of this world. Everything will work out in a short time.

In the meantime enjoy this spectacular view of the Galactic Core!

You are in Texas.

I want to drive fast and eat cheese!

As you know, the studio 40K armies are sold. Gone. I couldn't play a game of 40K if I wanted.

Renn, on the other hand, has five armies. How can that be? Death Korps, Nurgle (which he has nearly finished but you have not seen-- a deadly force), Yellow Devils, Bone Knights, and one other I can't remember.

I got the Fateweavers (dual use Tzeentch Daemons-- both 40K and Fantasy) all assembled thanks to Brigh, and I plan on painting those up soon. I've got some ideas.

What else is next?

Imperial Guard: with Kroot instead of guardsmen. The narrative is that they have destroyed a garrison of Cadians. I plan on using a lot of vehicles, and probably using veterans. I got a lot of IG vehicles laying about, ready to go. They're going to be all rusted, battered, and patched up. I think I've got like ninety kroot left over from the various Tau projects.

Blue Dragons: I know what they're going to look like, but not sure if I want them to be Chaos (1000 sons type list) or just plain Marines. Marines are done to death, not too keen.

Those are the two likely candidates.

I'm also thinking of doing a Fallen Eldar army-- slaanesh-themed but using the Dark Eldar list. It's been a long time since I played those. Don't see them too often.

Wanderer

First bit of news: we found a hobo spider on our front porch, about the span of a silver dollar. I kept an eye on it whilst my wife ran in to get something to smash it with. She brought out a can of beans. Are you crazy! Go get a shoe or magazine or something! One shoe later and the threat was gone.
.
G (my four year old son) is a staunch defender of spiders. He gets quite upset when one is killed. I think this is all right. All the better. Spiders keep the populations of other insects down.
.
The last few days I've had a pulled tendon or something in my right hand, just along the thumb-line. It's searing and almost keeps me from typing, the mainstay of my profession. So, I took it light for a day, but ice, heat, pain-relievers... nothing did the trick. Presently, I had a dream that I was winding my hand with a bandage in a certain way. At the end of my rope, I tried binding up my hand that way this morning. A few hours later the pain was almost completely gone!
.
It is my speculation/belief that in the celestial world dreams are like text messages sent from one mind to another. Visions, impressions, feelings, insights and dreams... all as normal as a cell phone.
.
I am still really keen on getting projects set up for October. The next round of Pandora's armies is getting set up.
.
My wife and I rented a few movies the other night. At the checkstand the clerk pointed out that we could just buy them for less (as they were on sale), so we bought Forever Strong (I think that's what it's called) and Vantage Point. This latter move is one of my favorites. I tooootally recommend seeing it. It's PG-13 for some language, so definitely one for after the kids are in bed.

No reports of injuries

My wrists hurt really bad tonight. I am giving them a break. See you all tomorrow.

Custom Kingdoms

Hey, check out this company:
http://customkingdoms.com/default.html

Monday: crank it up

It's Monday! Yay!

I'm already up before the crack of dawn ready to go. I'm answering all the inquiries that came in over the weekend. I hope to have good headway on that before heading to the studio bright and early this morning.

I need to mow and trim the lawn before I head out, though.

On Saturday I started up a game of Warhammer Fantasy with Renn, the first at the new studio. We only got to the end of turn four. He thinks I should concede, but I say "never say die".

I am on standby for you. I am eager to set up new projects.

The Green Woman

My wife, Tamara, is a miracle of nature. She grew up in rural Utah, a feral child who knew which plants are edible: sucking the nectar out of flowers and eating "cheesies" (a weed) from the yard. She was out and unsupervised from dawn until dusk.

.

She is a master cook. She can make pies from scratch. Any kind of food from scratch. She gathers fruit from local trees and makes jam every summer. She keeps a clean kitchen, a well-stocked pantry and cooks up a storm morning noon and night.

..

She is thrifty. She loves to buy things on sale. When she splurges it's on food and staple items.

.

She is quick to serve, to rush out and help a soul in need. She gives without counting the cost.
.

She is the genuine article. She wears the same face in public and in private. There is no guile. She is quick to forgive and never bears a grudge, not even for ten minutes. She probably won't even get upset about me posting this quite unflattering pic. It's a moment of fun for us while cleaning the garage.

.

We've been married now fifteen years. She has brought four gorgeous, healthy children into our lives. She bore each of them natural-like with no intervention. She goes into this trance and lets it happen.

.

The day we met, she wore a green lace dress. We were at church. I was a Sunday School teacher and she was in my class. From the day of our first date to engagement was nineteen days. I guess I had a lick of sense after all. I sensed that Tamie was a good thing going.

Laboring

I'll be at the studio both Saturday (today) and Monday (Labor Day), ready to set up projects, answer questions or be of any use to you at all. I would very much like to get some projects set up.

Oh, won't you get your new army done by Blue Table?

I am still running the Pandora's Army special, which I think is by far the best deal ever. We have produced about ten quality armies this way already, and have about six more currently in process.

There's also a variant on that called a Turbo Army. It means that you can narrow it down to a single army type that you want.
.
There are also two copies of Space Hulk left ready to be painted up This is a limited edition.

The best thing is that it's only half up front-- this means you can pay for part, then have about four or five weeks until your next paycheck to pay the other part. The common man can get it done.

I also allow for multiple payments, splitting it up into as many as four installments. Just tell me the approximate finish date you want and I'll get going on it. This means that for a 1500 pt Pandora's Army (for example: you can do this with any project) you would pay $215 per intallment.

Apes

Start with a cage containing five apes. In the cage, hang a banana on a string and put stairs under it. Before long, an ape will go to the stairs and start to climb towards the banana. As soon as he touches the stairs, spray all of the apes with cold water.

After a while, another ape makes an attempt with the same result - all the apes are sprayed with cold water. This continues through several more attempts. Pretty soon, when another ape tries to climb the stairs, the other apes all try to prevent it. Now, turn off the cold water. Remove one ape from the cage and replace it with a new one. The new ape sees the banana and wants to climb the stairs. To his horror, all of the other apes attack him. After another attempt and attack, he knows that if he tries to climb the stairs, he will be assaulted.

Next, remove another of the original five apes and replace it with a new one. The newcomer goes to the stairs and is attacked. The previous newcomer takes part in the punishment with enthusiasm. Again, replace a third original ape with a new one. The new one makes it to the stairs and is attacked as well. Two of the four apes that beat him have no idea why they were not permitted to climb the stairs, or why they are participating in the beating of the newest ape.

After replacing the fourth and fifth original apes, all the apes, which have been sprayed with cold water, have been replaced. Nevertheless, no ape ever again approaches the stairs. Why not? Because that's the way they've always done it and that's the way it's always been around here. And that's how company policy begins....

Dire Avengers Redux part 02

Insights from a client (thanks MN):

Shawn,
.
Just thought I'd point out a few things about your previous eldar post.
.
1. 10 avengers with blade storm:9 guys 2 shots each+1 for blade storm=27 attacks, Exarch 4 shots (2 catapults) +2 for blade storm (gets+1 per catapult) means they actually get 33 shots off, 6 of them at bs 5.
.
2. The dire sword of the exarch is really a mini force weapon, not something at str 3 I'd want to bet the farm on but I've had the odd hive tyrant and marine special character be killed off by it. At ws5 and init 6 the exarch ain't bad in close combat and at init 5 and ws 4 the avenger crew is fine for mopping up horde units or severely weakened infantry squads.
.
3. Guide+doom=dead stuff, especially since a doomed unit has wounds rerolled by all avenger units that shoot at it, not just one of them.
.
4. Technically, codex chaos space marines is really a fourth edition codex, much like the eldar codex. Both were designed with fifth in mind, but without the blatent points reductions and power ramping found in the guard, orks, and marine codexes. Chaos is a powerful codex still, but not as flexible or as varied as its previous incarnation.
.
If you want to see what eldar can do, put a unit of 10 wraithguard with farseer/eldrad in front of a unit of dual scatter laser warwalkers.24 shots a turn, with the wraithguard providing both a cover save for the walkers and a wall of t6 meat shield with guns that can kill anything in the game is ruff. Being able to fortune the unit of warwalkers, guide them, doom the target...or fortune the wraithguard (pick three if you're using eldrad) is ridiculous. Someone did this to my poor world eaters at aardboys and it wasn't pretty.

.
Have a great day.

Uphill Both Ways

Business as usual!

Well we're all moved in. I've been up since around 6am, just revving the engine for a regular business day. I am eager to get some new projects set up. I am standing by for calls and emails.

Everything in the studio got moved from basement level to ground level, transported, and then moved from ground level to the second floor.

It was uphill both ways.

My home teacher showed up with a truck and a twenty foot trailer. It was amazing. We got all the big stuff in like two loads. It was a truly heroic effort.

I think the phrase "grueling ordeal" applies. But it's all done now. I am expecting to get the video processed by Friday afternoon.

Afterwards we headed to Magleby's for fish tacos.

Once at home, after the heat of the day mellowed and the crickets started on their half-hearted droning, my lovely wife rubbed Arnica gel on my shoulders and brought me pancakes and ice-cold milk.

I'm putting the Warhammer Fantasy and Other armies on the block again. All the expenses of the move have tapped out the kitty. Those following the saga of Blue Table should be familiar with these forces already:

Heru Sky Raiders $950
Skorne (in brass and turquoise) $750
Lizardmen (3000 pts) $1500
Dark Elves (3000 pts) $1500

This is a limited time offer. I just need one more shot in the arm to put this place over the top.

Salamanders

A client of ours is selling his Salamanders army.
